Douglas E. Penner

Doug is a partner with the firm and member of the Litigation and Healthcare Law practice groups.  His multifaceted experience in the areas of medical malpractice defense, risk management, data privacy, cybersecurity and healthcare law brings tremendous depth and experience to his practice representing hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, physicians, pharmacists, dentists, nurses and other health care providers in courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and North Carolina.  His unique combination of defending claims and risk management gives him an unparalleled ability to understand and counsel clients on critical matters of risk mitigation.  Doug’s advocacy role also extends to healthcare providers who are faced with disciplinary proceedings before their respective professional licensing boards as well as credentialing and peer review actions. His legal expertise includes professional liability defense of accountants, architects, engineers, realtors, and lawyers. In addition, Doug has extensive litigation experience representing businesses, municipalities, public agencies, and individuals in a wide range civil litigation matters including complex litigation involving construction, product liability, automobile, premises, catastrophic personal injury and property damage.
